After receiving such positive feedback from the American Dog, I decided I wanted to make another piece that featured an animal. The idea of doing something with a Raven was my initial thought and immediately upon that decision, the quote from Edgar Allan Poe’s Nevermore popped into my head and refused to leave. I finally said, “if it wants to be there so badly, let’s just put it there”.

The desire for a raven sculpture drove the addition of the poem, and from there, came the natural progression to use a door in the sculpture to put the quote on. Crow Key is a sister piece to this one and features the key that would theoretically open the door.

I have added quotes to a few other pieces as well. I think the literary addition brings a new dimension and vibe to the sculptures and again gives the viewer an emotional attachment to the artwork.
