The thought of doing a braille piece had been with me for for a few years; after applying to a Request for Proposal from a school for the blind. My proposal involved a large steel wall with movable Braille pieces. My vision was for the students to be able to move the pieces around, write their thoughts and it would be a constantly changing medium.

This piece has the word BELIEVE written in Braille on the front and laser cut into the sides as well as the quote “Believe and act as if it were impossible to fail” on the back. The quote belongs to Charles Kettering who invented the electric car starter among other things.

I hope this sculpture motivates others to act on the power within themselves to make things happen. The quote means a lot to me personally as well as professionally because the truth is, if I don’t believe in a piece, it won’t get made or continue to be exhibited.
